- When he was younger, Scott had very poor health; he was bedridden and told he'd always walk with a limp.

- Scott once worked at a criminal reporter for a local newspaper called the 'Kenosha Daily Tribune.'
- Scott had small movie roles in the seventies but he grew tired of Hollywood and moved his family out of the city to Idaho.
- During his two year hiatus from Tinseltown, Scott worked as a mountain ranger, a barman and huntsman.
- Scott was lured back to Hollywood by James Bridges when he gave Scott the script to Urban Cowboy.
