I promised that this month would be pretty big, huge even, when it came to Star Wars news and I think I was able to live up this promise. With Star Wars Celebration Europe and Comic Con, Disney and LucasFilm was able to get out in front of massive audiences to updates us on their progress.

It was so big that I had to break my word and post a breaking news story on the developments regarding Rogue One. But don't worry, there is still a plethora of news items to keep you intrigued as we begin the final countdown to the next film's release (December 16, if you've forgotten).

July was a long, but promising month for us Star Wars fans and it officially means that we are more than half-way between new films, yay! So, sit back, grab some blue milk and let's talk wookie.

  • If you haven't checked out our story on the Star Wars Celebration Europe news on Rogue One, what are you waiting for? The big takeaways were the first official poster which you can see over there to the right and an amazing sizzle reel that will surely get you pumped for the first stand-alone anthology film.

  • There has always been talk about a live-action TV series set in the Star Wars universe, but that's all that it has amounted to, talk. Well, now that Disney owns LucasFilm and network ABC, there's a good chance that talk might finally amount to something. It makes sense and Disney has already created multiple TV series from their Marvel franchise for ABC, so will it happen?

Today (yes, that's right, breaking news today), ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey confirmed that he and LucasFilm have had discussions about creating a Star Wars series for ABC.

As a fan, I would absolutely love to say yes. We have had conversations, and we will continue to have conversations with Lucasfilm. It would be wonderful to extend the franchise.

I know that we are almost getting to Star Wars overload these days, but a live-action TV series done properly with a decent budget has the potential to be amazing. Here's hoping that they do it and that they do it the right way.

  • Are you wondering how things are progressing on Star Wars: Episode VIII? Well, wonder no more. It's official, they have wrapped principal photography.

They had the wrap party at London's Natural History Museum and it was apparently quite the shindig, complete with dancing stormtroopers. You can check out some of the action at Marie Clare.

  • One of the things that happened at Star Wars Celebration Europe was the official introduction of Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo. The talented young actor (you have to see him in Hail, Ceasar! if you haven't yet) is going to be great as the roguish smuggler.

Interestingly, there was a rumor (as yet unconfirmed) that LucasFilm signed Ehrenreich to a three-film deal to play Han Solo. The upcoming Star Wars: Han Solo is one, so if this is true, are they planning on making a trilogy of Han Solo films?

Good question, convention wisdom has long held that Alden Ehrenreich might pop up as Han Solo in Rogue One given that film's time frame, but that rumor was decidedly debunked at Star Wars Celebration Europe.

Of course, that doesn't mean that Alden Ehrenreich won't show in future Anthology films as Han Solo down the line. We'll keep an eye on this rumor.

  • Are you a gamer? If so, then I'm sure you'll love this trailer for the upcoming Death Star digital expansion pack for Star Wars Battlefront.

  • You might remember that I reviewed the book "Star Wars: Aftermath" last year. You might also remember that I wasn't too kind to the book that takes place between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Well, the second book in the trilogy has come out and I'm pleased to say that my review of Star Wars: Aftermath - Life Debt is much more positive.

Of course, it could have a lot to do with the inclusion of more integral characters such as Leia and Han or now that we have seen The Force Awakens, the characters make more sense. For instance, now we know that whiny Temmin Wexley turns into Greg Grunberg's Snap Wexley in The Force Awakens. We also get a bit of a hint at the origins of General Hux and others.

All in all, I found this book to be much more enjoyable than the first and I'm pretty excited about where Chuck Wendig will take the conclusion of the story.

  • Finally, today, while Disney didn't showcase too much Star Wars stuff at San Diego's Comic Con, that didn't stop the fans from partaking in some amazing cosplay. You really have to see that rancor costume to believe it. Check out the best of Star Wars cosplay at SDCC here.
  • Until next time, enjoy these Star Wars.
