Answer to Trivia

For the last 15 years, this question has had a rather simple answer, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The smash hit independent film enjoyed a continuous run of 52 weeks of charting on the box office report. Yes, that's right, it played in theaters for an entire year.

While it peaked at #2 and spent most of September of 2002 in the second spot at the box office, it was never able to make it #1 on the chart. However, the film still managed to gross a spectacular $241.4 million at the box office against a $5 million production budget.

Like all good records, it was destined to fall and last year, Sing took over the distinction of being the top-grossing film to never hit #1 at the box office when it earned $269.4 million. It opened in second place, but thanks to Rogue One, it never earned the top spot.

Unlike My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Sing has earned its box office in 13 weeks (thus far). It finished in 20th place this past weekend, but will probably drop quickly now that it is available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD.
