Will Boba Fett get his own movie?

Ever since the release of The Empire Strikes Back, fans of the seminal Sci-Fi epic in modern film making have been drooling for a film based on the baddest bounty hunter in the galaxy far, far away. Sadly, while the prequel trilogy spent time with Boba Fett's father Jango and the psychological origins of Boba's chosen profession, the prequel trilogy's treatment of the Fett family was as shoddy as the rest of the elements from Episodes I-III.

I know that I'm not the only one who looks at Christopher Nolan's Batman movies and see the perfect dark tone that will work perfectly in a new series of movies based on the events of Boba Fett's life that led him to be on Darth Vader's ship in The Empire Strikes Back. While wishing for Christopher Nolan to breathe new life in the Star Wars universe is fruitless, a Boba Fett movie might be closer to reality than we thought.

Screen Rant interviewed Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston recently and came away with this intriguing quote:

I’m trying to get George [Lucas] to make a feature based on Boba Fett. I would like to [direct the Boba Fett movie], it would be a lot of fun.

Before you dismiss this as just the whim of another director simply wishing to work on a Star Wars movie, you have to look at Joe's early work in Hollywood. Before he was a director, he cut his teeth as a concept artist and effects technician on the original Star Wars movies.

In fact, Joe was the artist who came up with Boba Fett's iconic look, so there is a level of ownership in the character which lends credibility to his desire to direct a Boba Fett movie. But before we get too excited over this news, we should keep in mind that the comment seems more like wishful thinking than concrete fact.

Short of going straight to the man himself, we asked the next best person (or easiest to get a hold of), George Lucas' daughter Katie Lucas. Besides being George's offspring, she also has written a few episodes for Star Wars The Clone Wars animated series.

We asked:

@krlgrrl Any thoughts on this proposed Boba Fett spin-off that Joe Johnston is talking up? Think it will ever see the light of day?

Katie (aka @krlgrrl) replied:

@VideoETA Never heard of it!

So, there you go. Obviously, just because Katie hasn't heard of it doesn't mean that the possibility of it doesn't exist. It does mean however that if such a movie were to happen, it's not going to surprise us and happen anytime soon.

What do you think? More importantly, what do you think a possible Boba Fett movie would entail?

I'm just spitballin' here, but I think a film (or trio of films since Lucas does like his trilogies) would pick up Boba Fett about 10 years or so after the end of Revenge of the Sith and follow Boba as he starts down the path that ultimately leads him to his untimely demise in the Sarlacc pit.

The tone of the films would be dark and bloody. Boba is a life story about revenge and retribution in which he blames the Jedi Knights for killing his father. Not being able to exact his revenge on the person who actually killed Jango, he comes to see Mace Windu's face on every Jedi Knight that he guns down.

After years as a mercenary, he comes to cross paths with a dark Sith lord Darth Vader who shares his hatred of all things Jedi and the two form an unlikely alliance to rid the galaxy of Jedi Knights once and for all. All the while, Darth Vader, aka Anakin Skywalker, withholds the information from Boba that he was there when Jango was killed and quite possibly he is as much, if not more, responsible for his death than Mace Windu.

The climax of the last movie would coincide with Boba Fett's appearance in the original Star Wars trilogy. Now, that's a concept worth waiting in line for, if I do say so myself.
