New 'Godzilla' trailer redefines epic

As I watched this new trailer for Godzilla, I couldn't help but think that Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich were watching it and drooling on their keyboards.

Every so often, a trailer comes out that basically redefines what we consider to be epic. This Godzilla trailer is one of those special few trailers.

While I enjoyed the teaser trailer that debuted in December, it left me wanting. This trailer does no such thing. It does a great job establishing a little bit of plot and then it gets out of the way, deferring to its two major strengths, Bryan Cranston and the big fella himself.

It's pretty clear from the opening sequences that this film will be all about the chaos and destruction and less about the origin story or other human factors. I'm sure they will be there, don't get me wrong, but I'm willing to bet that after watching this trailer, even Emmerich himself will agree that it blows his Godzilla movie out of the water.

Godzilla destroys megaplexes this Summer when it debuts on May 16.
